This week our ‪#‎WOW_Wednesday‬ is highlighting Tess K. ISP '15, CURE Fellow '15, a recent graduate, and 2016 Homecoming Queen of Conwell-Egan Catholic High School. A couple of months prior to graduation Tess scored her 100th career goal for her Lacrosse Team the Philadelphia Catholic League Eagles!! Tess is the recipient of a full tuition scholarship to LaSalle University where she will begin her fall studies as a double major: Biology and Secondary Education (Yeah!!) While attending LaSalle U Tess will be playing in as one of their D1 athletes on of their water polo team! Way to go Tess!!!

This week's WOW goes out to Ryan Henry, Ph.D.: 2014 ISP Co-Instructor, Fox Chase post-doc, long standing member of the ISP Selection Committee, CURE Mentor several times over, author of a Biochemistry paper on work started with ISP students during the 2014 session, AND he is a recent Special Contributor Awardee (from Fox Chase).
The ISP thanks Ryan for his support inside and outside of the teaching (and even has a microfuge named in his honor). All of the students and instructors have appreciated his hard work, sense of humor, and willingness to help us learn about more about biochemistry and biophysics!!

This week's post goes out to ISP supporter Beth Chernoff and the Temple Sinai Sisterhood. After having the opportunity to speak with Beth about the program, she shared the information with the Sisterhood of Temple Sinai. This amazing group went on the collect all means of office supplies and consumables. Our favorite items being the lovely certificate sheets donated to the program. The graduates of the ISP are proud of their certificates and we look forward to using our new ones. Thank you for your support and kindness. -The Immersion Science Program

A BIG ISP Welcome to the first C-ISP class! On 6/6/16 students from the Academy at Palumbo and Abraham Lincoln High Schools met for the first time after working on a collaborative, cross-city research project! They enjoyed speaking with faculty, post-docs & graduate students, ISP grads, and many local community members. They did their schools (and the ISP) proud as they explained their projects and shared ideas to further their work!! So, bring your hands together and clap for this new cohort of young researchers: The "Classroom" Immersion Science Program members of 2016!! WOOHOO!! :-) ‪#‎ISP‬‪#‎FoxChaseCancerCenter‬

This week's WOW goes out to a soon-to-be graduate of the Friends Select School. Imon R (ISP '15) was one of a very tight group of ISP'ers and we are sure that they are cheering him as he prepares to begin his post-secondary studies in Chemical Engineering at MIT!! (WAY TO GO!!) This summer, Imon, looks forward to working on an NMR/computational chemistry research paper at Villanova University.

A tad later than we had hoped to post, but nonetheless well deserved. Today's WOW goes out to T-ISP 2015 Mary Wang of the Academy at Palumbo!! Mary has recently received two fabulous honors which stand in testament to how lucky the profession is to have Mary as one of its amazing science teachers!! During the recent teacher appreciation week, Mary received the Lindback award for distinguished teaching nominated by her colleagues. THEN, she was honored at the National Liberty Museum as a "Teacher as Hero", and gets to be in one of the museum's exhibits! FANTASTIC MARY!! We look forward to working with you again in the coming school year!! :-)

This goes out to Will Redman (ISP ’14). This summer Will, an NYU Undergrad, will be working with Dr. Antoine Cerfon at the Courant Institute on a project dealing with nuclear fusion & design strategies for tokamaks (reactors designed to control nuclear fusion) and with future ambition to work on projects surrounding uranium enrichment processes. In addition to this, he has spent the past few summers working at Princeton University, in the lab of Thomas Gregor, PhD. (Laboratory for the Physics of Life). The Gregor lab “is interested in problems at the interface of physics and biology”. Will worked on projects that aimed to answer questions regarding the influence that topologically close neighbors have on each other in early gene expression pattern forming.

Congratulations out to Alison B!! (ISP '14, CURE '15: Katz Lab) As she concludes her freshman year at Wesleyan Univ, Alison has won the CRC Award which is "awarded to an outstanding first-year chemistry student, based on grades in organic chemistry over the interval of the current academic year." When classes begin anew in the Fall, Alison will be working as a member of the Olson lab. Way to go!!

Congratulations to Jessica (ISP 14, CURE Fellow 14 & 15)!! Jess was recently awarded the highly competitive Fox Chase Cancer Center Undergraduate Fellowship!! She will return this summer to continue working with the Sykes Lab! We will see you in a couple of months, Jess! Way to GO!!
